Mindfulness Resources

What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is paying attention here and now with kindness and curiosity. Mindfulness reconnects students to their five senses, bringing them into a moment to moment awareness of themselves and their surroundings. Research shows that mindfulness increases attention skills, reduces test anxiety, and improves emotional regulation.

40 Developmental Assets

The Search Institute (2006) has identified 40 developmental assets that help youth grow up healthy, caring and responsible. Over 150,000 grade six to twelve students have been researched to identify which assets are external (support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time) and which are internal (commitment to learning, social competencies, and positive values). Youth with more assets are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as alcohol abuse.  Talking openly and frequently about the developmental assets a youth exhibits is said to inspire confidence and hope in their ability.
